Wetlands
Swamps and mires, creeks and rivers possess a mystic place in our psyche. In Wetlands, a series began right before the pandemic, I initially wanted to explore the ecology of the region through black and white photography, but as the pandemic halted our economy as well as our social interactions, it became more of a study of isolation, impermanence and the condition of my own mental state at the time.
In this ongoing series I am drawing attention to black and white landscapes and the natural details of the Wetlands of Southeastern Virginia that often get overlooked. The images describe the relatively narrow but powerful range of emotions I was feeling at the time. Psychological barriers, protective adaptations, emptiness and the fragility of life can be contemplated through these images.
